Independence is sweet..

So I have really exciting news...we bought a trailer!! It's super exciting because now we can go to whatever shows we want and we don't have to borrow other people's trailer. We are finally independent!
The trailer we got is a Kieffer Built, two-horse goose neck. It has a very large tack room/sleeping area and a walk through to where the horse's are. It's really cool because if your in the tack room getting your stuff or something your horse is right through the door. The trailer is pretty big (23 feet long) so it's going to take some getting used to for sure but it's all very exciting :)

That's pretty much the most exciting thing that's happened lately but I might as well tell you how the show at Edenview went on the 15th.
The weather that day was great! The forecast had originally called for rain and thunderstorms but everything held off and it turned out really nicely. I did two full divisions as well as the extreme hunter challenge. The EHC was our first class of the day and he was a little bit spooky at first but by the end of the course he was doing really well. The hardest part of the course was at the end where you had to halt from a canter, back up three steps and then pick up a counter canter and do the last outside line. I wasn't sure if we were going to pull it off but we did - and he did it really well! He did it right from the halt too and got his counter canter right away. I was super proud of him. Sadly we didn't come first because I forgot to back up since I was so focused on the counter canter...*facepalm*...
The rest of the day went really well also. My next division was the 2'3'' - 2'6'' and we got reserve champion! I also decided to do the 2'6'' - 2'9'' division since the weather was so nice and Khamy was working so well, and we ended up getting reserve in that as well. I was really proud of my boy and had a lot of fun. There was even prizes at this show! For the first division I won a salt block and I also won a bucket in the second division.

The next Edenview show is on Aug. 26th. It'll be our first show with out new truck and trailer. I'm really excited!

That's all for now, talk soon!

Summer is Finally Here!

School's. Out. For. SUMMER!!!! Finally! My grade eight year is over and I can finally kick back and relax. Sort of. I guess being the passionate equestrian that I am, relaxing isn't really on the agenda. But what is on it is riding. Lots and lots of riding. As much as possible! With a healthy portion of barn chores I might add. As long as I'm at the barn, I'm happy.
The sad thing is, in between being at the barn I have absoloutely no idea what to do with myself! I put so much of myself into my riding that I just don't have time for any other hobbies on the side, unless watching re-runs of 'The Real Housewives of Vancouver' counts. So, I've decided to try something new this summer. Something that can make the time spent away from my horse seem less painful. I just haven't decided what exactly this 'new' thing is. As soon as I do though, you'll be the first to know!
Also now that I'm not so busy with school work I'm going to try to post more often. I've been a bit lazy in that department as of late...
Summer Lovin'

Talk soon!

p.s. I recently wrote the written test for my D2 level in Pony Club and I passed! I am doing the riding and stable management portion on Sunday. Wish me luck!

Riding In the Rain

So I went to the Edenview show today. It was really fun! But it was very wet!! The forecast had been calling for rain and it was right! When I was warming up it was pouring! Everything was soaked but I didn't really care, I was having a really good ride!
I was originally going to do the junior 2'3 - 2'6 division but since some people didn't come (thanks to the weather) I did the open 2'6 instead (I was the only one in the junior haha)
The ring was absolute slop! There were puddles everywhere! My first class was the 'Extreme Hunter Challenge'. Basically you just had to do a bunch of different stuff like trot through pylons and then trot over a jump and do a counter canter after halting before a line etc. Khamy was...quite naughty. He did not approve of the mud! He jumped all the jumps (after a run out or two) by the end and did all the things that were required but not before having a tantrum haha. We have decided that he is an official princess!!
The next two classes were flat and I got a 2nd and a 3rd. I had to really push him through the mud but he didn't break or slip or anything so I was happy with our flat.
Next I had two classes over fences. Khamy was actually really good! He braved the mud and water and jumped around the course really nicely! I didn't really pay attention to distances because of the mud I didn't want to risk him slipping. He landed most of his leads and he got some of his flying changes! He did buck a little bit to get his hind end in the air, I think it was mostly because he was nervous in the slushy footing. In the first over fence class I got 3rd and in the second one I got 1st.
It was a great show day full of mud and rain but also lots of fun! And I got reserve champion which was pretty cool :) Here's a video of one the over fences classes I did:

I'll be back at the barn tomorrow so I might be able to post about something other than a show haha but I have Ultimate Frisbee practise so I might get home later than normal :/

Also my good friend Clare is coming to visit the barn on Tuesday which I am sooooooo excited about! I haven't seen her in FOREVER!! Gonna be a good week :)

First Show of the Season!!

Hey so I had my first show of the season on the 20th of May! It was great! I am soooooooooo proud of Khamy, he was awesome! Sorry I haven't blogged about it until now but I have been really busy and a tad bit lazy (hehe)

2'6 division,  May 20,  PHC
Anyways - I spent all day at the barn getting him all ready and packing the trailer etc. It was so nice to finally give him a bath! He was so dusty! I love it when they're all clean and shiny!
The show was at the Pickering Horse Centre, I did the hi/lo hunter division. It had three classes over fences and two on the flat. It was 2'6/2'9. We did the 2'6 because we're not focusing on height, more on the details and technique like flying changes. Speaking of flying changes he got 50% of them at the show! This was the first show where we got some flying changes! He only missed two leads out of the three trips we did. He's been getting really good at landing his leads as well.
The competition was SO intense! Pretty much all the people in my division were trillium riders and my coach said she recognised some of the horses from the A's when she went a few weeks ago to watch.
I didn't pin because our changes weren't perfect like the other horses but I got reserve/honourable mention in every class.

All in all it was a great day, I felt we accomplished a lot, and Khamy trailered soo nicely, the best he ever has! He didn't even think twice just walked on like I was turning him out in the paddock.

My next show is coming up really soon actually - this weekend! I am competing at Edenview Equestrian Centre. The jumpers at my barn show there (they host jumper shows)  and so we decided to try doing the hunter series this season. I'm really excited, I've heard it's a really nice place to show!

In other news, my lesson was quite interesting this week. We did some training in the forest and on the big hill in the neighbour's field. It was fun but challenging especially working on the hill. We were practising rhythm up and down the hill which was tough because I had to add impulsion going up the hill and then sit up and keep him from running down the hill too quickly. In the forest we worked on striding with trot poles and balance at the gallop. This week I will be going over there to practise some more.

Pole work in the forest

I also have some news about pony club. I attended a meeting on Friday and we discussed the subject of level testing which is coming up. I have to test for D and D1 before I can test for D2, which is the experience level I'm at right now. Each level is composed of three parts, the written test, the stable management test and the riding test. I'll keep you updated on how that goes.

If I have time I'll blog again this week but if not I probably won't be back on here until after the show. So excited!

Quiz!!

Oshawa Pony Club - Quiz
Hey guys! Long time no talk! Quiz was last week and it was amazing! I had so much fun and Oshawa did really well! I was on a team with Zoe and another girl in my branch named Shelby. We had lots of fun together and did pretty well. Oshawa had four separate teams competing in total - one D team, two D1 teams (my level) and one D2 team. My team placed 5th in the Oral testing, 1st in the visual and 2nd overall. The other D1 team placed 1st overall, our D team placed 3rd overall and our D2 team placed 4th overall! Way to go Oshawa!
That was pretty much the most exciting thing that happened this (well more like last) week. I had my lesson today and Khamy was unbelievable!!!! He is just getting better every day! I am so excited for my first show....it's in TWO weeks!! I have a good feeling about this show season, it's gonna be great! I have been clipping and cleaning all week and his mane is almost all pulled! Yay!
The only other thing that is mildly interesting is the weather! Omg it has been so beautiful! It's so nice to be able to go to the barn in a t-shirt! Craziness!! And there have been an incredible number on monarch butterflies in my backyard....like it's on the verge of being weird..they are EVERYWHERE! They are very pretty though!

That's about it for now but I will hopefully blog again soon..maybe..no promises ;)

Go Oshawa!

Hey guys. Sorry I haven't blogged in a really long time...again aha....I have had a super busy week school wise but not so much horse wise so I haven't had anything to write about really. I haven't been to the barn since Tuesday and am missing my horse so much! I can't wait to see him tomorrow!
Before I say anything else your probably wondering why the title of this is 'Go Oshawa'. The reason is....quiz is on Saturday! My pony club branch (the Oshawa branch) is going to Uxbridge for the quiz competition! I am so excited! It's gonna be super fun and a great learning experience. The downside is that since it's so far away we have to get up really early to get there....it starts at 8am. Ya. It's gonna feel more like a horse show morning haha.

It's going to be a busy weekend so not sure if  I will have time to blog but we will see :)

That's all for now! Wish us luck! Go Oshawa!

Sort of a good excuse...

Hi guys. So ya I haven't blogged in a week....sorry! I wish I had a good excuse as to why I didn`t blog but I really don`t. Well I sorta do, I mean I was pretty busy this week but there were a few times where it was just pure laziness....
Anyways, I didn`t have a super eventful week so you didn`t miss too much. I went riding on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Khamy was a superstar this week! Enough said.
The only part of the week that was a bit more interesting was our lesson on Saturday. That was great. Khamy was absolutely brilliant! We didn`t flat for too long because he was being just great and there wasn`t a lot we had to pursue so we did mostly jumping. We had some trouble with the short approaches to some of the diagonal fences but by the end he was going really well over them.
I had a nice little bareback ride afterwards which was relaxing as well. :)

Oh ya, one more thing I almost forgot to tell you...I sprained my ankle YAY! Not. I fell on it in gym class...aha I`m cool..... It kinda sucks but luckily I can still ride :) I probably shouldn`t but not riding is more painful than a sprained ankle (in my opinion)

That`s about it, so until next time!
