Go Oshawa!

Hey guys. Sorry I haven't blogged in a really long time...again aha....I have had a super busy week school wise but not so much horse wise so I haven't had anything to write about really. I haven't been to the barn since Tuesday and am missing my horse so much! I can't wait to see him tomorrow!
Before I say anything else your probably wondering why the title of this is 'Go Oshawa'. The reason is....quiz is on Saturday! My pony club branch (the Oshawa branch) is going to Uxbridge for the quiz competition! I am so excited! It's gonna be super fun and a great learning experience. The downside is that since it's so far away we have to get up really early to get there....it starts at 8am. Ya. It's gonna feel more like a horse show morning haha.

It's going to be a busy weekend so not sure if  I will have time to blog but we will see :)

That's all for now! Wish us luck! Go Oshawa!

Sort of a good excuse...

Hi guys. So ya I haven't blogged in a week....sorry! I wish I had a good excuse as to why I didn`t blog but I really don`t. Well I sorta do, I mean I was pretty busy this week but there were a few times where it was just pure laziness....
Anyways, I didn`t have a super eventful week so you didn`t miss too much. I went riding on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Khamy was a superstar this week! Enough said.
The only part of the week that was a bit more interesting was our lesson on Saturday. That was great. Khamy was absolutely brilliant! We didn`t flat for too long because he was being just great and there wasn`t a lot we had to pursue so we did mostly jumping. We had some trouble with the short approaches to some of the diagonal fences but by the end he was going really well over them.
I had a nice little bareback ride afterwards which was relaxing as well. :)

Oh ya, one more thing I almost forgot to tell you...I sprained my ankle YAY! Not. I fell on it in gym class...aha I`m cool..... It kinda sucks but luckily I can still ride :) I probably shouldn`t but not riding is more painful than a sprained ankle (in my opinion)

That`s about it, so until next time!

Amazing Weekend!

Wow! What an awesome weekend! Sorry I haven't really blogged about it at all (been SO busy) I will just catch you up now.
So on Friday I went riding with Zoe and Tessa. That was lots of fun! Khamy was really good. Probably the best ride I've had all week actually! He wasn't lazy at all and did everything I asked really well! I rode bareback after which was really fun as well. Khamy is the most comfortable horse I have ever ridden bareback! He is so smooth! Since I am so slow untacking we were the last ones in the barn and I had some nice cuddles with Kham :) He is so adorable!
Yesterday I had an even better day! In the morning we helped clear some of the overgrown branches in the forest trails. After that we had some lunch and then Zoe asked if I wanted to go dirt biking. This was my first time and I was a little nervous but decided to try it. I only fell of once haha, well I didn't really 'fall off' it was more of a 'jump' off. What happened was, I was trying to turn and I accidentally hit the gas really hard and it took off REALLY fast and I just sort off stood up and it went out from underneath me and fell over......I couldn't help but laugh!
After dirt biking Zoe, Jenny and I went for a really nice hack. It was lovely! We went all around the mini forest trail across the road and then we went into the Ganaraska! It was Khamy's first time out into the Ganny this year and he was amazing! I was walking with my reins on the buckle and he was fine, didn't spook at anything!
I think the best part of out trail ride was when we were on the private trail Zoe and I were singing 'What Makes You Beautiful' at the top of our lungs haha, it was hilarious! And the horses were like "What are you doing?"
Oh and something else I thought was pretty funny was when we were on the part of the trail that runs beside the highway, I waved to a car and an old lady who was in the passenger's seat like had her face glued to the window and her eyes were SO wide haha it was like she's never seen a horse before!

Well that's about it for my fabulous weekend! I am going riding tomorrow so I will see you soon!

Impulsion...

Oh boy! Tonight I had an awesome ride!
At first I thought Khamy was going to be a bit stiff but he worked out of it in no time. We were doing mostly flat today and he was so good!
His canter was FABULOUS tonight! Oh.My.Goodness!!!! A few months ago, I could barely sit deep in my seat without him breaking stride because he didn't have enough impulsion. It was really frustrating actually. We have been working really hard on balancing him and really getting that impulsion from behind and it's paying off! Now when I sit in my seat he ricks back on his haunches and really drives forward into the contact, it's the best feeling! I am so excited about this!

I put up a video of Khamy and I jumping the birch jump. It's only like 2'6 but I was just practicing keeping impulsion around the turn to the jump and landing leads so height didn't really matter.

I'm not going riding tomorrow so until next time!

Missed Him Soooo Much!

So tonight I got to go to the barn finally! I was in barn withdrawal haha and so was my mom! It's only been two days but what can I say I love my horse way too much!

I had such an amazing time at the barn today, right from the moment I went to catch my horse. Gotta love it when your horse comes running over when he sees you! He was such a sweetie today, so relaxed and affectionate. He was really calm in the cross-ties and stood so patiently. I was practising my fishtail braid in his forelock and he held his head nice and low for me, what a good boy!
As well as having some nice bonding time, we also had a really fabulous ride! Jenny (BO) put up a new jump in the arena with birch tree poles which was something Khamy has never jumped before and he didn't even look at it, he just flew over it!
His canter has been coming along so well and it feels like it's all finally coming together. We have worked hard all winter and it's finally starting to pay off. He is really starting to get that lovely collection while keeping a really steady and strong impulsion. He also got a few really clean flying lead changes tonight it was great!
I am loving my new saddle so much! The difference is amazing! It's like riding a completely different horse. Getting a saddle fitter was the best thing we have ever done, it's really amazing! His movement has improved heaps.
I rode bareback for a while after and took him over the birch jump again and he was perfect. I love riding bareback, you just feel so connected. I think Khamy likes it too!

I am also teaching Khamy to bow and he is such a quick learner! He's really flexible as well so that makes it a lot easier to teach him. Maybe once we're a little better at it I'll post a video on here :)

So basically just a super-duper fantastical ride! I missed Khamy so much, it was so good to see him! I am going riding again tomorrow (yay) I think I'm gonna work on some flatty stuff :)

Talk to you soon!

Quiz Practise: Conformation

So tonight I had a pony club quiz practise......yes I am a member of the Canadian Pony Club. It's great! You learn so much and get to meet so many new horsey friends. Plus you get to go to lots of cool/informative clinics and get to compete in Pony Club shows, PPG, Rally etc.
One of the events that Pony Club does is quiz. Quiz is where all the branches from your region get together and put their equestrian knowledge to the test. It's super fun! You work in groups of three with other people from your branch and their are different tests; oral tests, written tests etc. and the branch with the most points or whatever wins! My branch won last year and I'm hoping we will do as well this year!

Anyways, for the past couple of months my branch has been meeting weekly for quiz practise. So basically we focus on one thing each week that we'll need to know for quiz and learn about it. This week we did conformation. We covered a wide range of stuff from parts of the horse to what to look for conformation wise, when buying a horse. It's funny because a lot of the terms refer to other animals (cow hocked, pigeon toed, goose rump, mutton wither, etc.) and all of these terms are referring to things you don't want in a horse so it's like they're saying that horses are just way better than any other animal haha, which I think is sorta true, but I guess I'm a bit biased.

That's about it for today but I am going riding tomorrow (thank goodness) so I will probably post about that tomorrow! Talk to you soon!

Off to a Good Start

Hey again! Now that I've introduced myself and gotten all of the explanations and what not mostly out of the way I can actually start, well, blogging!

I had my lesson today and it was SO AMAZING!!! Literally one of the best lessons I have had in a long time! Khamy was so good it was unbelievable! We even got some flying lead changes! He got one after he came off a jump which was surprising because most of the time it takes more planning/setup but he just did it, it was awesome!

After my lesson Khamy was super sweaty so I took him into the outdoor washstall to sponge him off a bit. It is really starting to feel like summer!

I know this post was SUPER short but I am really tired and my brain isn't really in gear so my writing is probably a bit boring right now.... At least my first post was about something this exciting!

Anyways, I will talk to you soon! Sadly I won't be going to the barn until Tuesday because my mom is working all weekend but I look forward to writing again! Bye for now!

I Moved!

Hello! Some of you may know me from my old blog Khamy's Corner. I sorta stopped blogging on that account a while ago and decided to start blogging again but I wanted something new and fresh so I made this blog. For those of you that don't know me, my name is Teagan. I am a 13 year old equestrian. I have been riding for almost five years now and am loving it more and more each day. I am very lucky to ride and own a beautiful horse named Khamsin (Khamy for short). He is literally my entire life. I can't express in words how happy he makes me feel. No sadness has ever overcome the joy he brings to my life everyday and because of that I can bring joy and light to the other people in my life. I have realized that being a happy and up-beat person reflects so positively on the people and animals around you and makes everything so much easier.
Khamy is a 7 year old Quarter horse/Arabian cross. He is almost 16hh and is a full dunn which means he is like the colour of peanut butter and has various special markings such as "cobwebs", a dorsal stipe and yes, zebra stripes.
I am a hunter and I love it. I love the beauty and grace a hunter can demonstrate and the constant strive for perfection. I am a goal setter and hunter provides so many oppurtunities for goals, no matter how unattainable some may be.

I realize this has been a bit of a long and boring post but I promise that this is not going to be how all of my posts turn out haha. I tend to ramble quite a bit when I am talking about something I am passionate about. I am excited to share with you all of the new things that Khamy and I get to experience as we continue our jouney together. It's going to be an adventure I can assure you!
